Actually, this movie is adapted from a famous series of comic books. And the comics are published for a long time and I have been reading and chasing them from the beginning to the end. If my memory is not wrong, the series finished last year. Wow, I have been waiting for the end of the comic since I was a senior high school student. It has been so long a time!

To me, comics always have some special magic that attract me and keep me from stop reading them. Even I am a college student now, I still cannot totally stop myself from reading them. It’s kind of shy and embarrassing to admit my unstoppable addition to comic books. However, I think I have grown up a little bit for I reduce a great number of comic books which I read per month comparing to before. Now, if I really want to get away from the tiring and complex literature world, I will still go to rent some comic books to relax myself. I always think if I read them properly in numbers and time, comic books will not be harmful to my regular life.

Because I loved the series of comics so much, when I saw the trailer of it, I was so excited. Also, another reason was I liked the female character of the movie, so she made me want to see this movie more. Maybe I am a too sensitive person, so it is very easy to make me cry. When I started to see this movie, I cried when it began at the first few minutes. Because the male character was a boy who was born with heart disease, he was not allowed to run, to play with his friends and was forbidden to eat a lot of kinds of foods. When he saw other children play together happily, he wanted to join them. However, he couldn’t, because once he started running, his heart would not afford and that may cause him to death. When he was a kid, he overheard the doctor told his parents that he couldn’t live over twenty years if there was no suitable hearts for him. I thought this movie was so cruel and so sad. Because I finished reading the series before I saw the movie, and in the original version, the male character would finally get a suitable heart and get married with the female character. So when I saw the movie, I just told myself it was no need to cry for him, he would be fine in the end of the movie, However, much to my surprise, the end of movie was changed and different from the original one! He died! That was what I didn’t think up before. I was so shocked and my tears dropped down as soon as the doctor proclaimed his death. I was so sad about the end but I thought maybe it was the best way to end this movie, because when I read the comics, I felt it’s kind of ridiculous that the male character could find the suitable heart on time. So, I thought maybe to make the end tragic was the best ending for the story.

Actually, I knew the book before the movie. I remembered it was in senior high school when I first met the book. At that time, I was a third-grade student who seldom had leisure time to read novels, but I was attracted by the introduction and the coverage of the novel so I didn’t have the second thought then I bought it home. I remembered it didn’t take me too long to finish the book. Before I read this novel, I always hated to read foreign novels because I thought most of them were translated so poorly that I could not understand them easily. The main topic of the novel was regular but by the author, it became so attractive and so touching. When I finished reading, I was so sad and hoped for another end. I just couldn’t resist the sad ending. It’s so funny that I loved tragedies so much but I also hated to see the bad endings for they always made me cry or sad.


Because of this novel, I started to know the famous author “Nicholas sparks.” And because I liked “Dear John” so much, I found all of his other books to read. After I knew some information about the author, then I knew that he was a very famous writer for love novels. Recently when I watched the American series, I even saw people reading his novels. In addition, almost every of his works was adapted into movie versions. There will be another new movie which was also adapted from his work “The Last Song” soon. The movie version was a little different from the novel in some small ways, but the outline was not changed. What surprised me was when I saw the trailer at first time, I was so shocked because the man who played “John” and the woman who played “Savanna” were exactly the same as I imagined in my mind. The dispositions of the two were so suitable for the two characters, so I was so expected to see the movie. And it ended so well and I didn’t feel disappointed at all. It was so touching and at the end of the movie, I cried. I felt so sorry for John and Savanna. Maybe because love between these two people was so pure, when they couldn’t end well, people get heart-broken.


It occurred to me very late that the title of the book “Dear John” had some special meaning. Because the man’s name in the movie was “John”, it implied he would get dumped in the future. Wow, it reminded me that I would never call my son “John” because it was unlucky!

Actually, this movie is a kind of old but very famous one. At that time when this movie was played in theaters, it soon became so popular and so famous. I admit I have watched this movie for many times but when I switch the channels and happen to see it, I will still watch it to the end, even though I already knew the whole story of the movie. However, I seldom watch it from the beginning and I always watch from the middle part, so I don’t exactly remember the very start of the movie. Until recently, I happened to watch it played on HBO from the very beginning, so I watched it. To my surprise, it seemed that I have not watch the movie from the start, and since I have not watched it for quite a time, so I decided to watch it overall again. Then after watching it, I was very contented. No matter how much time has passed, the movie was still so good.

I think the reason why the movie is so famous is because the male and the female protagonists- Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. These two have cooperated in another earlier movie called “Sleepless in Seattle” and that movie was a big hit. So that’s why their cooperation of the second time is so attractive and expecting. Actually, the movie did become very popular at that time so once again Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan succeeded in making people touched, warm and happy.

The story of this movie is flat but intriguing. It’s not from a very big or hard issue or a big picture but just a warm and small story. It makes people smile and gives people happiness. To be honest, I like movies with simple and easy topic than those with heavy and hard issues. I think the easy and relaxing movies can give me more energy and make me happier when I finish watching them. Maybe some people will say that the love comedy or stories are shallow and with no meaning in them, but I think the essence of my seeing movies is for fun and to chasing relaxation, so why I bother to see something which will make me feel unhappy. The topic of the movie is actually up to date because more and more people make friends from the internet nowadays. However, the story may be misunderstood by some people because it’s not very possible to meet someone really fits you and who you can spend the rest of your life with. Yes, the movie does provide us with some romantic imagination but we still have to tell the reality from the imagination. We can get some hopes from the movie but they are not must. I admit I sometimes will be influenced by these love movies, but I just cannot stop watching them!

The reason why I knew this movie was because the name of the male protagonist. When I was in junior high school, there was a famous writer whose name was the same as that of the female character of this movie. Also, the writer said he borrowed the name of the movie’s character because he liked this movie very much. It is the first I noticed this movie, but I still didn’t have too much interest and motivation to rent the DVD to watch. And it was not until my freshman year that I had the chance to watch this movie. Maybe the movie was for quite a time so the style and the characters were not that fashioned, but still it is a good movie. The story took place in two parts in different period of time. One was memory and the other was present. The story was about a girl who was taking a trip to try forgetting her dead boyfriend. She visited the places of her boyfriend’s past and tried to understand his past life. She wanted to know everything of him before she totally forgot him.



The most famous and the most touching scene was when the female protagonist yelled to the mountain, where her boyfriend died “How are you?” She cried and yelled “How are you?” for so many times and this scene made so many people cry for the voice of the girl was so pity and so sad. You could tell from her voice that she loved her boyfriend so much and she still could not move on to a new life because she was still in love with him and cared about if he was ok. At that time, it was snowing. Honestly, I couldn’t stop crying when I saw this scene for I also felt so sad and so sorry for that girl. Maybe you can find it to watch sometime and will get touched by it yourself!

Actually, this movie has released for quiet a time but I still had no chance and motivation to watch it no matter on TV or on the internet. However, I finally found some time and got interested in the movie recently, so I watch it from the internet. After watching it, I regretted I did not watch this movie earlier because it was so good and so touching that made me cry.



The leading characters are now very popular in Japan: “Tamaki Hiroshi”(玉木宏) and “Miyazaki Aoi”(宮崎葵). The male character is the symbol of gentlemen. He is usually thought to be gentle, tender and handsome. Actually, he was famous before but after filming this movie, he is getting more popular now. Actually, the reason why I wanted to see the movie was because the female character. Recently, I have watched some movies and series she played and her characteristics attracted me a lot, so I just wanted to see all of her works. She is not like the typical type of idols or actresses. She is more natural, innocent and different. From her face, I only can tell she is pure but nothing. Because the idols or actresses nowadays don’t have the characteristics like she has, I notice her more.

Before, I have seen too many Japanese love movies and most of them let me down. Maybe the market of Japanese movie is not mature enough or maybe it’s because I am influenced by Hollywood movies so much that I have lost my ability to appreciate different kinds of movies. I think I do be impacted by Hollywood movies a lot or even too much. Japanese movies are obscurer when the directors want to express something or the way how the characters express their emotions. So sometimes, if I do not see the movie very clearly or carefully then I may not get any extra or secret information from the movie. Maybe the reason why I feel some Japanese movies are boring is because I do not even understand them or get the information they want to express.




However, this movie is totally ok and it is both attractive and interesting. Although the end of the movie is cliché in Japanese movies, still, it‘s a good movie. The cliché which usually takes place in Japanese movies is that the male or the female character, however usually the female ones will be dead in the end no matter die from car accidents or diseases. This kind of end happens almost every single time. So when I watched the movie until the very end, I thought to myself “Again? Why does the writer always like to sentence the female character to death?” Maybe people will say that’s because the tragedies can always be remembered by people. However, I am almost sick of it. So, I think the biggest pity of the movie is the end. Ironically, even though I criticized the movie when watching it, I still watched it passionately. Recently, I have watched some movies that I already watched before again. I always think some good movies are like books; every time you watch or read it again, it will make you feel different even just a little bit.

When I first watched this movie, I was just a senior high school student. All I thought about this movie was “what a funny story!“ and “It’s too ridiculous to happen in real life”. At that time, I just thought it’s a funny movie and I learned nothing and thought nothing more about it. However, now, as a college student, I watched it again. To my surprise, it gave me some new thoughts.

Although it intended to be a comedy, it still had something for me to think. When the leader character, ”B” asks the students “what’s your dream?” and “What do you want to be?” Then I asked myself of these two questions. Surprisingly and shockingly, I couldn’t answer the questions because I couldn’t remind of my original dream when being a child. The questions made me think if we just followed what others did and what our parents or the society wanted us to do, and after a long time, when we were totally changed by the concepts, we lost our dreams. When we finally found out the reality was a lie, then we sadly found out that we already forgot what our deepest desire was. It’s kind of pathetic. Because we tried our best to reach the goals that the society already set, during the period of reaching that goal, we forgot our original passion to certain objects.

When B goes to one profound college for visiting, he sees students be forced to take the classes they don’t like. They just sleep and chat to kill the time of these boring classes. It looks like waste of time and life but until now, students do this. The scene made me think of me and people around. We always had some optional classes that we must take, though they were “optional”. I remembered when I took these optional classes, I always dropped out of the classes stealthily or just did my thing like reading books or writing my homework there. Honestly speaking, I just showed up at the class but my mind and my thought were not there at all. And of course I got nothing from that optional course. To me, it’s like a waste of time. I thought it would be better for me to do something I like more. Not just about playing, it could be the time for me to gain more knowledge in my interesting professional field. Maybe some people would say that we should learn everything to found our common sense. So maybe this movie was funny, ridiculous and unrealistic, it did give me some inspirations. People are so easily to get refused, so we have to find some places where can accept us. From some many ideas of learning in the movie, they suddenly made me feel so depressed because I didn’t have any special skills except for studying and taking tests. It’s so sad. So this movie inspired me to find my original dream and let me rethink of what I have now and what I want to be in the future.

Actually, I didn’t watch this film very clearly before. It’s because the class of “Introduction of Novels” then I find the movie and watch it again. The feeling is quite different from that before maybe it’s because I didn’t understand very well about the whole story. Maybe it’s in my senior high school that I first had interest in the classical novels of foreign countries. So at that time, I watched the movie of it. However, I didn’t really understand what happened to the characters and I even feel bored when watching it. I just thought why the movie was so long and boring and why this boring novel could be one of the most famous novels in the world. It’s the scene when Mr. Darcy proposed to Elizabeth at the first time that impressed me most. I did not know why Mr. Darcy wanted to marry her and at the same time said in a very sarcastic and annoying tone. I just he was so weird and stupid. If one wants to marry someone, he should say something flattering to make the woman happy.

Then after I took the novel class and read the novel through myself. I finally understood more about the relationships between the characters and also know everyone’s characteristic. It’s not until then that I understood why Mr. Darcy proposes to Elizabeth in that way. Also, I think the novel is much better than the movie because the movie has to ignore a lot of details because of the limit of time. However, the movie does help because it makes the abstract characters become real people and display the story in front of me. It helps me to understand the background of the story for I can see the customs of ancient time and the scenery in England. It makes the story become alive and vivid. In addition, watching movie is a more relaxing and a faster way to understand the outline of the story.




I remembered when I finished reading the novel, I was so in love with Mr. Darcy. It’s quoted from the teacher of novel class that Mr. Darcy was like a price charming from a fairy tale. And “Pride and Prejudice” was a different style of fairy tales. However, it’s still a fairy tale though you might not think so at first. However, after reading you would find out that the novel was actually a fairy tale.


After I finished the novel, I felt so admired and liked Jane Austen so much. She was so good at describing one personality. The personality of Elizabeth was so impressive and attractive. Although I just could not understand why Mr. Darcy would fall in love with her, I thought no other characters in the novel fit him. Mr. Darcy was so elegant and so thoughtful. He is kind and like a gentleman. He is rich and handsome. Every characteristic he had made him a perfect man. So in this novel, he was totally a prince charming. I thought this novel and its movie was important to me, because it was the first novel I read in the class. I felt so touched about this novel and it made me think more and deeper about a literary work, so I believed this novel would be one of the novels which influenced me a lot.
